The Pinoy Who Wouldn’t Stop Believin

Wed. September 10, 2008

Elena Stevenson writes in her blog.

Somebody give me a lighter. Journey, the ultimate stadium-rock band, has just taken the stage. Oh, the guitar solos…the nostalgia. But these days, there’s a different face mixed in with the aging Frisco white guys. It’s the boyishly cute mug of Arnel Pineda, recently emigrated from the Philippines, who’s now the lead singer of the band. His story’s something of a rock-and-roll fairy tale.

David Ciccone Thinks Arnel Is Amazing

Sun. August 24, 2008

I stumbled on a new Journey album in my local store and noticed a new singer. Curiosity hit and google’d him and was BLOWN away. He is not only identical to Steve Perry but probably better believe that or not! Steve Perry was always my favorite singer my whole life but now Arnel has moved up. Tell me what you think?

David Ciccone thinks Arnel Pineda is amazing.

Oh, Lover Blogs About Journey Concert

Sat. August 16, 2008

Oh, Lover blogs about Journey concert. Here’s a random excerpt of was written.

Journey was also pretty ace!  I have wanted to see Journey for years, and I finally got to see them.  I know that no one can come close to Steve Perry, but their new lead singer, Arnel Pineda, is pretty damn close.  They played every classic Journey song that you can imagine, plus some new ones from the new album.  Mom squealed like a little girl when they played ‘Separate Ways’.  It was really amusing.  Then again, I reacted the same way when they played ‘Ask The Lonely’.  Sue us.  We’re Journey fans!

I’mProudlyFilipino Writes About Arnel

Fri. August 15, 2008

We’ve all read it. Sure, why not a few more articles about Arnel discovery.

June 28, 2007, Neal Schon of Journey messaged Noel Gomez, a longtime fan and friend of Pineda who uploaded many of these videos, to ask for Pineda’s contact information. Schon sent an email to Pineda inviting him to audition for Journey. Arnel, along with his manager Bert de Leon, flew to Marin County, for a two-day audition. The star-struck Pineda was welcomed warmly but he described the audition as “nerve-wracking, tense”. October 5, 2007, he was announced as the new lead singer of Journey.

Flag Waving At Journey Concert

Tue. August 12, 2008

Straight Talk brings up the topic of flag waving at a Journey concert.

Die hard Journey fans who welcome the resurgence of the group may very well be color blind but I am sure they would be asking these questions when they see hordes of his fans in waving the Pinoy flag in unabashed adulation. Ok, flag waving is innocuous. Heck, you can even streak with the multicolor Pinoy flag tattooed in your body. Whatever . There’s silly and better ways to support Arnel and see him in that spotlight in the many years to come. It’s your choice.

Join the fray.

The RealMcCoy Previews Journey’s Upcoming Concert

Mon. August 11, 2008

The RealMcCoy previews Journey’s upcoming concert in Washington, DC at the Nissan Pavilion.

We didn’t stop believing and now they’re back and better than ever. Journey comes to Nissan Pavilion on Wednesday, August 27th. From all reports, the band sounds better than ever with Arnel Pineda at the lead vocals. The line up also includes Cheap Trick and Heart (a personal favorite). I’m certainly going to try to get a group together for this!

Yea, Arnel is the real deal. But, Generations album?

Arnel’s Effect on Vagabond 4 Months Later

Mon. August 11, 2008

Oh, I like the way this girl writes. I must share.

Before I got the Journey/Arnel Pineda bug.

    • I used to have intelligent conversations - now I just giggle.
    • I used to have a clean house - now vacuum cleaners don’t go well with Revelation and Ipod
    • I used to go to the library for intelligent research -now I just google for 1 particular subject

But, the one entry I had the most chuckle with was this:

      • I used to have a boyfriend. But I am not sure how I lost him. I think I lost him somewhere between the intersection of Journey and PMS. But he has been calling again and told me I can keep PMS, but I have to lose Journey. Guess who’s got to go.

      Read Vagabond’s latest here.

      Sun. August 10, 2008

Blogger Manila Boy wishes Journey’s visit to the Philippines will happen soon. Well, he should. While waiting for Roderick Astley (I thought it was Rick Astley) to show up at the Coliseum, they played Open Arms with Steve Perry! What? Not Arnel Pineda!

PomPom Boo Take on Journey Singers

      Thu. August 7, 2008

Blogger PomPom Boo pits several Journey singers against each other. In this post, its Frontman Fight #2 between Steve Augeri and Arnel Pineda.

The early rounds were relatively even. Augeri, looking and sounding like the Voice, strikes Pineda with a soulful feel that bewilders him and the crowd. Same tone, same range..Woh…is this Steve Perry? Pineda, on the other hand, counterpunched with his strong powerful voice that Augeri had trouble defending. Often twirling the microphone stand and jumping off the drum set, there was nothing Augeri could do. As the fight went on, Pineda just got stronger and stronger, feeding off the crowd and the 1000’s of Filipinos supporting him, eerily similar to a Manny Pacquiao fight. Augeri came charging back in the later rounds with his guitar rocking Chain Reaction to the core!!! But in the end Pineda’s showmanship was too much and wins by unanimous decision.

Mr. Badak Writes About Story of Arnel Pineda

      Thu. August 7, 2008

Blogger Mr. Badak share with us his perspective with Arnel’s life story.

Arnel Pineda was just a regular singer for a local band in the Philippines, singing in the clubs with his band, The Zoo.

However all these changed late last year when the legendary band Journey was looking for a new frontman after their replacement singer backed out of the band after a year. Their original lead singer, Steve Augeri was diagnosed with a throat infection that took out his voice.

      Arnel Not Sounding Like Steve

      Mon. August 4, 2008

Barbara Jane Reyes in her latest posting, thinks Arnel’s voice doesn’t sound at all like Perry. Well, Barbara. You’re not the only one. The more I listen to Arnel, the more I see a distinction between his voice and Steve Perry. Although, at certain times Arnel does sound like him.

Sometimes I think I am the only one who thinks Arnel Pineda doesn’t sound much like Steve Perry on this new Revelation album/production. Let me hearken back to Sunny Vergara’s “It’s Steve, and It’s Not Steve” post over at his American Pop blog, in which he discusses mass media, Rolling Stone, et al, claiming Pineda sounds “spookily similar” to Perry.

      Arnel Takes Journey By Storm

      Mon. August 4, 2008

      Storm Coffee blogs about Arnel

One of the hardest things in life is to face it having few role models, or worse, none, who can light the way for you and make it feel safe to distance yourself from familiar harbours. For the longest time, this was how I felt, personally. But here comes Arnel Pineda who jumps out of the classic rockstar fairytale and joins the band Journey, allowing it to rise from the ashes and breathe new life.

Java John Spills The Beans on Arnel

      Sun. August 3, 2008

Blogger Java John speaks about Cheap Trick, Heart and Journey

Last Night my wife, son, and brother all loaded up for a road trip to Tampa after winning tickets to one of the hottest tours on the circuit this summer. This was the fifth time I’d seen HEART, and the third time both for JOURNEY and CHEAP TRICK. I’ve been a longtime fan of Heart, and always enjoyed Cheap Trick, but I’ve never been a huge Journey fan - but I must say they rocked pretty hard last night, and their new singer, Arnel Pineda was pretty awesome, a dead ringer for Steve Perry (read below).

Well, you can read all about it here.

      Burnettiquette Speaks About Arnel

      Sun. August 3, 2008

James Burnett talks abouts Arnel’s inspirational story. James, don’t worry about being weepy every once in a while. Arnel’s story on CBS Sunday Morning gets everyone a little teary eyed.

I was at work at the butt crack of dawn today ’cause I had to get prepped for a segment on a radio show, and I while driving in I was listening to a local radio guy talk about seeing a hair band concert last night here in South Florida. The show included Journey and its newest lead singer Arnel Pineda. I’ll include the CBS Sunday Morning story on Pineda at the end of this post in case you have a few minutes to watch it.

      Read Brunettiquette’s blog.
